    Commander Burnside
"Look at that! The actual Buzz Lightyear in the flesh!"
    Gender: Male
    Type: Arrogant Commander
    The Fan of Buzz Lightyear
    Age: Unknown
    Species: Human
    Portrayed by: Isiah Whitlock Jr.
    Media of origin: Lightyear

Commander Calvin "Cal" Burnside is the former overarching antagonist-turned supporting character of Pixar's 26th full-length animated feature film Lightyear, a Toy Story spin-off film centered on the origin story of Buzz Lightyear.

He was voiced Isiah Whitlock Jr..

Why He Intentionally Deserves to Be Thrown in the Stockade

    1. While he does call himself a fan of Buzz, even mentioning how he looked up to Buzz as a kid, he's pretty dismissive and even a bit callous when he tells Buzz that they're shutting down his mission in order to focus on the colony, and while we may understand Burnside's side of things since he is someone who grew up on the colony, he could have put a bit more care into discussing the topic with Buzz instead of simply forbidding him from trying to test fuel again.
    2. Nearly everything bad that happens after his introduction can be traced back to him somehow, meaning he is responsible for the majority of the films events. His decision to cancel the hyperspace program leads to Buzz rebelling against Star Command, and trying to arrest Buzz for this leads to the creation of Zurg. His laser shield stops Buzz and his allies from calling for help or supplies, making them go through dangerous situations in order to get what they need to pull off their plan, and also prevented Buzz from landing in the base in the second timeline due to Zurg's assault, where having done so led to his attempted arrest.
    3. He seems to be a coward, as not only did he prefer to stay enclosed in his laser shield to save his skin, but it's implied that he wouldn't mind letting a few members die out there just so he wouldn't risk his own life.
    4. He doesn't get any punishment for his actions, making him a Karma Houdini.
    5. He is one of the worst characters and unmemorable characters of Lightyear, alongside Emperor Zurg and Mo Morrison.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. Isiah Whitlock Jr. does a great job voicing him.
    2. There's a hilarious post-credits scene of him in his office feeling comfortable of a laser shield protecting the facility he is in from insectoids, and a giant bug tries to come in and is destroyed.
