The Scorpion King (The Mummy Returns)

    The Scorpion King
    Gender: Male
Type: Ugly CGI Scorpion Human hybrid
    Age: 50,030
    Portrayed by: Dwayne Johnson
    Status: Deceased
    Media of origin: The Mummy

The Scorpion King is the secondary antagonist of the 2001 film The Mummy Returns. He was portrayed by Dwayne Johnson in his first film role.

    Why He's No Imhotep

    1. Most of the time, he is an outdated CGI character that resembles a PlayStation cutscene. In the PS2 game based on the film, he looks even worse. He is a perfect example on not to make a CGI villain.
    2. Unlike Imhotep, he's more generic and one-dimensional. Aside from his conquest of Thebes, he doesn't have an actual backstory.
    3. His scorpion-human design is very awkward.
    4. He only serves to give the Amulet of Anubis a purpose.
    5. There is a wasted opportunity where he gets killed by Rick when Imhotep should have killed the Scorpion King so he would gain control of the Army of Anubis. This was reflected in the bad ending of the PS2 game.
    6. He is a lot more bloodthirsty than his grandfather Mathayus.
    7. Due to his dated CGI, he doesn't look scary.
    8. He doesn't speak English like his grandfather. He only speaks in Arabic.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. He is portrayed in live action at the very beginning of the film. It was entertaining to watch because it shows his conquest of Thebes.
    2. Unlike the villains of the third film, he is at least Arabic.
    3. Dwayne Johnson did a good job playing as him in his first film role.
    4. His design is unintentionally funny.
    5. His defeat and end of the Army of Anubis by Rick is satisfying to watch.
    6. His identical grandfather is a much better character.

    • Stephen Sommers revealed that this Scorpion King is the identical grandson of the titular character seen in the 2002 film.
