"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!"
— The Pope
The Pope is the main protagonist of the controversial 2005 BBC/MTV animated series Popetown, which was banned in certain countries. He was voiced by Ruby Wax.
Why He Intentionally Is a Disgrace to The Real Popes
- For starters, he's constantly shown to be a spoiled brat and always cries like a baby. And to make matters worse, he is supposed to be an adult in this series, even though he's a child who acts immature.
- He's always giving Father Nicholas a hard time and he never, if ever, gets his comeuppances whatsoever, making him a karma houdini
- He often treats Father Nicolas like a slave.
- He is always calling someone bad names or making unnecessary insults, especially towards Father Nicholas.
- Misleading role: He was meant to be the protagonist, as popes in real life make decisions on issues of faith and morality for Catholics, but here, he acts like a villain and/or an antagonist due to his ruthless and barbaric behaviour.
- In The Big Fight, he almost killed Ivan the Invincible by pushing random buttons, proving that he is in fact irresponsible.
- He's also unnecessarily cruel to animals. In Derby Day, it appears that he sticks a cork up a horse's butthole making it blow up.
- His voice is extremely ear-bleeding to listen to, especially when he cries like a spoiled brat that he is. In other words, Ruby Wax did not do a good job voicing him.
- He is a very offensive portrayal of several real life popes in the Catholic Church, including Pope John Paul II. While the Pope’s actual name is never revealed, his position of power gives the other popes in real life a very bad name.
- He is also shown to be ungrateful. When the Cardinal Three hands him a gift, the Pope throws it away like it's nothing.
- He's also been shown to have anger issues, as shown in in the first episode The Double, where he points a gun at his impersonator.
- He is usually the one who comes up with the gross-out gags, for example the one in the State Visit, where he bathes in his own feces.
- Due to all the reasons listed below, he was so bad that his show was banned in certain countries.
Redeeming Qualities
- His design is actually nice to look at.
- To be fair, he was clearly meant to be hated.
