Tex Avery (The Wacky World of Tex Avery)

    Tex Avery
This is what happens when you write a cartoon show for a cartoonist who doesn't even want to be in the spotlight in the first place.
    Gender: Male
Type: Tex Avery in Name Only
    Age: Unknown
    Species: Human
    Portrayed by: Billy West
    Status: Alive
Media of origin: The Wacky World of Tex Avery

Tex Avery is the titular character of the infamous DiC Entertainment show, The Wacky World of Tex Avery. He is a cowboy who has a crush on Miss Chastity Knott, and his rival is Sagebrush Sid, a bandit who also has a crush on Chastity. Like the show itself, he is named after the late iconic Warner Bros./MGM animator, Tex Avery.

He was voiced by Billy West.

Why He's A Disgrace To The Real Tex Avery

    1. He is a horrendous representation of the real life Tex Avery. In real-life, Tex Avery was a quiet and reserved man who never actually sought out the spotlight (the cartoon creation of his that has the closest similarity to the real Tex's persona is Droopy). However, in this show, Tex is portrayed as a hyper and insufferable Bugs Bunny Western-type hero comic relief character who is more annoying than actually funny.
      • Not helping matters is that in nearly all of his appearances, he lusts/does wild takes exaggeratedly on Miss Chastity (his love interest), similar to what the Wolf does to Red in Tex Avery's MGM cartoon "Red Hot Riding Hood". What the creators didn't understand while making this show is the context, that being that Wolf was the villain protagonist of said short (and a zoophile since he is a wolf and Red is a human). As a result, Tex is nothing but a girl-crazy pervert towards Chastity and an unlikable main character whom the audience are supposed to root for in his cartoons.
    2. His design is ugly and really unappealing, and hardly looks anything like the real life Tex Avery, particularly whenever he has an unsettling smile on his face.
    3. He is an obvious stereotype, as he is a Texan/Old West character.
    4. He is a rip-off of Red Ryder from the 1944 Looney Tunes cartoon "Buckaroo Bugs", except without any of the likability and charm of the latter.
    5. He does plenty of things that are absolutely inappropriate and disturbing for a kids show:
      • In "Bottleneck Bear", he sets fire inside a bear's stomach.
      • In "Fat and Fatter", he puts a tapeworm inside Sagebrush Sid's mouth.
      • In "Not a Sporting Chance", he graphically scratches his nails on a chalkboard.
      • In "Sagebrush Sandy", he strips all of his clothes off to the point that a censor bar covers up his private parts (see the image below). In the same episode, he squeezes a bear's butt.
      • In "Water You Gonna Do?", he devours a live buzzard until it is nothing more than a skeleton.
    6. Overall, he is an insult to the real-life Tex Avery.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. He has a few funny moments.
    2. Billy West did a great job voicing him.
    3. The real-life Tex Avery is a much better representation of this horrendous fictionalized version of the guy.
