Roger Smith, also known as Roger the Alien, or just known by his first name Roger, is the deuteragonist and off and on-again antagonist of the 2005-present adult animated comedy series American Dad!. He is voiced by the show's creator, Seth MacFarlane.

While he was likable in the first seven seasons of the show, he was sadly flanderized from season 8-onward.

Why He's Intentionally the CIA's Most Wanted Alien Now

    1. He went from a funny comic relief to a violently murderous sociopath and evil manipulator. Just like they did with the cast of Family Guy, they severely flanderized him and pretty much made him the equivalent of Peter Griffin and Brian Griffin combined. He, alongside Stan, suffered the worst flanderizations in American Dad.
    2. He has done a lot of bad things in season 8-onwards. These include:
      • He was at his worst in "Love, AD Style" because he shot Hayley and tried to skin her alive. Not to mention, that was the season 8 premiere, meaning his flanderization is a "cranked up to 11 right away" one.
      • He tried to steal Steve's girlfriend in "Introducing the Naughty Stewardess".
      • In "Naked to the Limit, One More Time", he pushed Jeff into a spaceship that sent him to his home planet and people. Not only that he died in space.
      • In "Stan's Best Friend", he is shown laughing at Steve because he is crying over his pet getting injured which is very mean-spirited of him.
    3. Almost all of Roger's redeeming qualities have been stripped from him.
    4. In "The Full Cognitive Redaction of Avery Bullock by the Coward Stan Smith", unlike in "A Bully for Steve", he makes Steve's bullying situation worse than it was as he makes Stelio Kontos beat up the latter.
    5. For a character who still gets a lot of screen time, he has a huge lack of backstory compared to the other characters. This, combined with his character treatment, makes him come across as almost one-dimensional.
    6. He is extremely selfish and only cares for himself. An example of this is when he eats all of Steve’s chocolates that he is going to use for a fundraiser, even though he does not know that the chocolates are for that purpose and that he needs to act this way to survive in the universe.
    7. Even when he does show acts of kindness, they come off as artificial most of the time, as the episode "Frannie 911" states that kindness and empathy are so toxic to him that they would literally kill him. Later episodes ignore this, causing this kind of moment from Roger to be seen as only existing simply as a plot device.
    8. He rarely gets any consequences for his actions, making him a massive Karma Houdini.
    9. He also became an incredibly overused character and solely used for "dark comedy".
    10. He acts way too childish to the point it's not funny anymore.
    11. He is completely incapable of accepting criticism to the point where he either flat-out puts it down or goes into a rage over it. Once again, just like Brian Griffin.
    12. He is a highly offensive stereotype towards bisexual and pansexual people as he not only acts campy and effeminate often, but he also gives off the notion that bisexual and pansexual people are highly depraved people with no sense of altruism.
    13. He's become just as psychopathic as Peter Griffin, however his psychopathic tendencies are even worse than his.

    Intentional Redeeming Qualities

    1. He was much more likable in the first seven seasons of the show.
    2. His personas are still great and entertaining to watch.
    3. He still shows his care for his family occasionally, especially with Steve and Stan.
      • Arguably, his chemistry with Steve is still awesome and believable, similar to Brian and Stewie.
      • Also, his relationship with his son, Rogu, is very sweet and heartwarming.
    4. Just like with Stan, Seth MacFarlane still does an amazing job voicing him.
    5. It's obvious that they made Roger intentionally unlikable.
    6. As mentioned above in WHITCIA'sMWAN#8, he sometimes gets his comeuppance for his actions.
    7. His design for an alien is still awesome to look at.
