    Kylo Ren to Rey

Rey Palpatine, (born 15 ABY on Hyperkarn), is the main protagonist of the Star Wars Sequel trilogy (ranging from episodes VII, VIII, and IX). Ever since she was on the big screen, there was a huge controversy.

    Family

    • Sheev Palpatine (biological paternal grandfather)
    • Dathan Palpatine (biological father)
    • Miramir Palpatine (biological mother)
    • Snoke Palpatine (biological uncle)
    • Luke Skywalker (honorary adopted father)
    • Leia Skywalker Organa Solo (honorary adopted aunt)
    • mh:greatcharacters:Han Solo (honorary adopted uncle)
    • Ben Solo (honorary adopted cousin)
    • Darth Vader (honorary adopted grandfather)
    • Padme Amidala Naberrie Skywalker (honorary adopted grandmother)
    • Shmi Skywalker-Lars (honorary adopted paternal great-grandmother)
    • Jobal Naberrie (honorary adopted maternal great-grandmother)
    • Ruwee Naberrie (honorary adopted maternal great-grandfather)

    Bad Qualities

NOTE: This will only discuss her character in the Sequel Trilogy alone. Other media appearances (i.e. Robot Chicken, where she is more likable) will not be included.

    1. Rey is undeniably the least interesting out of the three protagonists in the Skywalker saga.
    2. On the topic of Anakin Skywalker, she was treated like she was the Chosen One despite not being so, even after Anakin's death.
    3. She was supposed to be the main protagonist of the sequel trilogy (similar to how Jar Jar Binks was supposed to be the comic relief of the prequel trilogy, but failed miserably), as Rey mostly lacked a personality.
    4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasted Finn (a far more interesting and better-written character than Rey) in the final battle to forcefully give Rey the spotlight which is pretty annoying. Plus, this idea is pretty poor as an introduction to her being the main protagonist of the sequel trilogy.
    5. Rey and Kylo Ren have a rather strange relationship despite the two hating each other, especially the latter. And it does not have any buildup put into it either.
      • Not helping is that in The Last Jedi, their relationship still ends up as poorly-developed and forced.
      • Their romance in The Rise of Skywalker was very rushed and they didn't have any romantic interest in each other beforehand.
    6. She goes too far on Luke when she nearly kills him in the second sequel. Yes, Luke was also bad in this for attempting to kill Kylo Ren and becomes negative, but the moment she decides to try to almost kill him in cold blood was hands down a violation to the Jedi code not to mention hypocrisy.
    7. Both Han Solo and Luke Skywalker are disposed of (in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi perspectively) just to prop her up.
      • In The Rise of Skywalker, the creators trashed Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader by bringing back Emperor Palpatine and have Rey kill him instead, which just feels very insulting because the idea of bringing back Palptatine renders Anakin's sacrifice meaningless and having Rey easily nerf Palpatine in the final battle feels like yet again another on the creators' attempts to shamelessly trash the old characters to prop up Rey (a Mary-Sue and a poorly-written Star Wars protagonist); it's also annoying that they even did the most famous Star Wars character dirty.
    8. She stupidly almost got Chewbacca killed when he was captured in the third sequel.
    9. Her relationship with Finn also feels forced. (No pun intended)
    10. The very anticlimactic and facepalming ending scene in The Rise of Skywalker:
      • Woman: Who are you?
      • Rey: I'm Rey.
      • Woman: Rey who?
      • (Rey looks at the spirits of Luke and Leia)
      • Rey: Rey Skywalker.
    11. She suffers from wasted potential when she was speculated to become a Sith but it turns out to be a reflection of her dark side and didn't even join Palpatine as his vessel or even an empress.

    Good Qualities

    1. Daisy Ridley's performance as her is decent.
    2. Despite being overpowered, she does have her own shortcomings; she failed to turn Kylo Ren to the light, was almost killed in their duel until she used the Force or Leia's intervention, she needed Kylo's assistance in taking out Snoke's guards and also failed to convince Luke into joining the war.
    3. Her character has improved a bit in the final film of the Skywalker saga.
    4. Her using the Skywalker name to honor their legacy is a decent lesson that bloodline does not make one family, but their heart.
    5. Her yellow-bladed lightsaber is awesome, given it is made from her quarterstaff.
      • Rey's lightsaber is also the first yellow lightsaber seen in live action.
    6. Some of her powers and Mary Sue-like characteristics may have been inherited from her grandfather Palpatine, given that he was the most powerful Sith Lord of all time.
    7. She was much better in the original draft of the third sequel "Duel of the Fates" and she is given a better surname known as Rey Solana instead of Rey Palpatine or Rey Skywalker.

    Trivia

    • Daisy Ridley would reprise the role in a cameo appearance in the Speechless episode "S-Star W-Wars".
