Nicole "Nikki" Julliane Maxwell is the protagonist and narrator of the Dork Diaries book series. She is Brianna Maxwell's older sister. She labels herself as a "dork" and goes to Westchester Country Day on a scholarship because her father is the school's exterminator. One of her biggest fears is that someone will find out that she attends Westchester Country Day on her dad's bug extermination scholarship. Nikki's best friends at school are Chloe Garcia and Zoey Franklin and is the love interest of Brandon Roberts. Her enemies are Mackenzie Hollister and Jessica Hunter.

Why She Is Indeed a Dork (Dork Qualities)

1. To begin with, she is just a Blooregard Q. Kazoo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends and Maggie Pesky wannabe: She acts like a villain despite being the main protagonist instead of a hero and only cares about herself, her diary, and her dorkiness and thinks she is better than anyone else when she's not.
2. She is very ungrateful and disrespectful towards her parents; she calls them "brain dead" just because they don't want to buy her a new phone and her dad is an exterminator.
3. She also bullies her younger sister Brianna just because she is not as "perfect" as her, calls her a brat (when she's just a cheerful little girl), and even wishes her to be dead.
4. Sometimes she only cares about what she looks like or how popular she is. All she ever thinks about is being better than anyone else or being someone she is not. All the problems she has either revolve around being "single" or stereotypical "girly girl" problems like not having nice enough clothes or dealing with mean girls like Mackenzie.
5. She overuses certain words like "OMG", "dork", and "SQUEE", which can get annoying to an extent.
6. She wastes her time drooling and obsessing over her crush Brandon (like this for example), which gets extremely weird and disturbing.
7. She gets little-to-no character development and characterization throughout the series as she remains the same.
8. She acts like her life is a great big problem and doesn't appreciate the love her family gives her.
   • There are kids out there with no food, water, parents, or education, who are abused to the point of suicide, poor, wear old outgrown clothes, homeless, have fake friends, etc. Yes, she may be bullied by MacKenzie and Jessica, but she has friends who care for her, loving parents, a loving sister, food on the table, nice clothes, and a roof over her head.
9. Her personality is way too similar to Greg Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid. However, she isn't like him trying to gain clout by doing things that are stupid like breaking Rowley's arm for instance, and trying to get anyone's attention to it, and she lacks his humor and relatability.
10. In some of the comic strips located at the back of the cover, she's rude to Mackenzie even though the latter didn't do much of anything to her.

Good Qualities

1. Her anime-esque character design is somewhat pretty.
2. She still loves her family and friends despite her selfish attitude.
3. There are times when Nikki is nice and supportive towards her friends and family.
4. Nikki is a pretty good artist compared to MacKenzie in the ninth book Tales from a Not-So-Dorky Drama Queen.
5. She is right about Brianna being a pest sometimes, though this is because she is little.
6. Sometimes, she stands up for herself when MacKenzie does something cruel to her.
   • While it does get annoying at times, she has a right to not like Mackenzie because she's a bully.
7. Compared to other characters, she cares the most about her schoolwork.
8. At least she's more tolerable than Mackenzie.
