    Mr. Goodman (SML, late-2016-present)

"Don't let your kids watch it!" - Robbie Rotten

This article contains potentially sensitive content that may be discomforting or upsetting to certain users. Reader discretion is advised!

Reason: Swearing and sexually violent threats.

    Mr. Goodman (SML, late-2016-present)
"Breaking news m'kay!, A man by the name Logan Thirtyacre, changed my whole personality for no freaking reason as I went from a freaking incompetent yet also kind and friendly man to a freaking short-tempered, evil personified millionaire who extorts Mario for house payments yelling out: "Give me your house payment, Mario!", a jarring change that was criticized by many fans for how much of a departure it was from my old character, especially since it came with little/no buildup."
"To make matters even worse, Logan Thirtyacre has never explained why my character changed drastically, which could be seen as absolutely distasteful and offensive to people that liked my old personality better!

Mr. Goodman is a major antagonist in the web series SuperMarioLogan. During his early years, he was written as the cliché character with a lot of jobs (similar to Brooklyn T. Guy today) and the chief of police. However, ever since late 2016, his character has been flanderized, where he has been taken in a new direction, with him now being a rich angry "landlord" who threatens Mario with his "house payment" after the episode "The Koopalings Part 2". He is also a news reporter in a news broadcast fans dub “Exposition TV”.

    Intentional Despicable Badman Qualities

    1. He became a sleazy and corrupt character whose whole personality is that he is an intentionally over-the-top caricature of a greedy businessman, complete with some corrupt/morally questionable moments.
      • He also became a carbon copy of Mr. Burns, Carter Pewterschmidt, Vicky, Lots-O-Huggin Bear, Mr. Krabs, Peter Griffin and Mr. Herriman all combined into one person
      • He mentioned once that he impregnates nannies and fires them, and also has other side comments implying a sexist view on women. Similarly, it's mentioned that he repeatedly impregnates his maids, files for income to take care of the children, and then ships them away to avoid caring for them.
      • It is also heavily implied he is now an obscenely powerful mob boss whose company is a front for a massive criminal organization and gets away with committing enough crimes to get him locked up for life or even executed because the police are extremely corrupt and take bribes like candy, and is also presumably smart enough to hide his operations from the FBI.
      • As shown in "Jeffy's Paper Shredder", he has become so immersed in his evil that doing nice things physically hurts him.
      • Unlike other characters, Logan to this day outright refuses to explain why he completely overhauled Mr. Goodman's personality from being friendly to evil.
    2. He isn't now all that funny sometimes, and like Jeffy and similar to Bowser Jr., many of his frequent running gags, especially around 2017-2018 have fallen victim to repetition.
      • One recurring running gag that began in 2016 involves Goodman going into long, angry swearing fits (mainly involving the word "Fuck."). Not only did this gag get old fast, but it doesn't help that Jeffy had a nearly identical running gag that began around the same time as well.
        • Once Mr. Goodman's black "elephant asshole" suit debuted, the trait was exaggerated further to the point that he dropped a swearing rant in every video he appeared in up until SuperLuigiLogan's demonetization in 2019.
      • Similarly, the gag of Mr. Goodman wanting Mario's "house payment" has also decidedly gotten stale over time, especially as the structure of the jokes seldom changes; Goodman tells Mario he is missing his "house payment", Mario cannot pay it, and Goodman threatens some form of extreme bodily harm/mutilation onto him. Unlike his swearing rampages, these jokes persist to this day. These threats include biting off Mario's scrotum, sewing his scrotum to Mario's mouth, tearing off Mario's nipples by giving him a purple nurple and then eating his nipples, turning Mario's testicles into applesauce, stretching Mario's nipples out to use as a jump rope, shoving a screwdriver up Mario's ass, using a machine created by Dr. Finklesheetz to enlarge Mario's nipples and then eat them, and outright killing Mario.
      • Recent videos have also given Goodman an unnecessary hatred for Mario's hat for no reason and it is barely explained why he hates it apart from the fact that he gets tired of seeing it all the time whenever he wants to get his "house payments", with the surrounding jokes mostly coming off as forced and unfunny.
    3. He is notoriously greedy and has shown himself to go too over-the-top and ridiculous extremes to get even trace amounts of extra money, including changing his birth name to cash in somebody else's check in "Jeffy's Shirt".
    4. He once stole the shredded bits of Mario's lottery ticket, put it back together, and passed it off as ''his'' ticket, effectively stealing from Mario.
    5. In "Invisible Jeffy", he shoots and nearly kills Jeffy, who was still a minor at that point, because he catches him stealing $1900 from him. While Goodman was definitely in the right to stop Jeffy from stealing money from him, shooting a minor with a gun just to stop them from getting away with the money that they stole from you would easily qualify as excessive force, and would realistically lead to ''you'' being arrested.
    6. He is very cruel to his butler Chives, who is an ''elder''. He forces Chives to live in a tiny room under the stairs and use a chamber pot for a bathroom. When he accidentally got a dart stuck in Chives' eye, instead of showing concern, he was angry that Chives got in the way of his dart throwing. When Chives gets sucked out an open window in a plane, Goodman thinks he ran away and gets mad. One video shows that he keeps a device inside of Chives that lets him shock him. It's also revealed that he spanks Chives using a paddle with spikes on it.
    7. He is also known to be overconfident; when Mario lets him taste Chef Pee Pee's cooking in "The Bet", he doesn't bother to taste Chef Pee Pee's ravioli and he only smells it. This led him to be sure that he'd win the chef competition the two were attending. He then bet all of his money that he'd win so that he'd double his money. To put a long story short: it didn't end the way he thought and what is worse is that he never learned his lesson when he was Bowser's chef.
    8. He's implied to be racist against Mexicans, as he doesn't bother to remember his Mexican maid Patricia's name, and instead calls her various Mexican names, and at certain points, nicknames her Burrito and Taco Bell. Even if he isn't racist, this at least proves that he is too lazy/unappreciative to remember her name. *He once had baby seals made into shoes.
    9. He has serious anger issues, and can also be very violent; like his frequent over-the-top threats of biting off Mario's nipples/testicles and the time when he actually bit off Black Yoshi's nipples (though in the latter case, it is understandable as Black Yoshi did scam him). He is also a proud cannibal who kills people who don't make their "house payments" and rips off their testicles and nipples to eat, and he sees no problem with it; on one occasion, he even taught fans how to make a dish out of testicles.
    10. He not only refused to give Chef Peepee the $50,000 he needed to open his restaurant but burned it in front of him just to spite him.
    11. In "The Stolen Egg", he steals a $20 million golden egg from the Easter Bunny. While flying home in a plane, he orders Chives to roll the window down, despite Chives pointing out that that is a bad idea. When Chives does roll the window down and the egg gets sucked out, Goodman blames Chives even though Chives just did what he was told and warned him that opening the window was a bad idea. Goodman forces Chives to jump out of the plane after the egg, which leads to Chives falling to his death, something that Goodman shows no remorse over. When he learns that Cody had the golden egg and shows up demanding where it is, he very rudely smacks Junior for no reason after Junior asks what he's looking for. He also gets angry at Cody for returning the egg to the Easter Bunny despite Cody mentioning that the Easter Bunny had a gun. When Cody offers him a plastic purple egg, Goodman smacks it out of his hand. He proceeds to steal the egg from the Easter Bunny again, showing that he learned nothing.
    12. In "Black Yoshi's Black Friday", he is completely ungrateful for the big Thanksgiving dinner Mario made for him.
    13. He once had baby seals made into shoes.
    14. Even though he is often greedy, humorous, and merely sadistic at times, he can have moments where he can be a little bit of a sadomasochist, which is played for laughs. As seen when Mr. Goodman punches his testicles in front of Mario to make him realize what not paying his "house payments" is like, and seemed to enjoy making Mario feel sorry for him to get Mario to pay for Mr. Goodman. Even though his masochistic moments are much rarer than his sadistic moments, there were times when he'd harm himself to make his plans of action work as seen in "The Bet"; where he finds a puddle at Walmart and slipped over it so he can break his spine, which was done to sue Walmart and become rich again.
    15. In "Mr. Goodman's Bad Request", he puts Chives on a leash like a dog and tries to get Mario/Marvin to neuter him for urinating in his closet. It's also mentioned that he previously tried hitting Chives with a newspaper and shoving his face in the urine.
    16. He is also now extremely cold-hearted and selfish too, in the episode "The Movie Date!", Brooklyn T. Guy tries to lie to Goodman about there being an emergency, but Goodman just states that it is "not his problem", even if it's a lie, this shows Goodman tends to lack empathy.
    17. Not only is he now a jerk to Mario, but he also is a poor father figure; he abuses his son Richard so he can mold him into a suitable successor, for example at the ending of "Mr. Goodman's Son", when Richard realizes that money doesn't buy happiness, Goodman is appalled and slaps his AirPods off for saying such a thing.
      • It's also possible that the reason Richard now exactly behaves like his father in his next appearances (for example, him yelling "Eww, poor!" constantly, which is the complete opposite of the monologue he said in Mr. Goodman's Son) is that Goodman forces him to act like him, which is extremely cruel.
      • He is even now worse than Benjamin, as he even demanded that Mario adopt Benjamin and only took him back because he didn't want to pay taxes.
    18. His character slowly started to derail beginning in "Bowser Junior's Painting!" marking the true beginning of his character's downfall. In that episode, his swearing is uncensored, and starts to talk about Money
    19. He's also now a very spoiled, self-centered, immature, and abusive boss to his waiter, Chives, when he doesn't get what he wants and gets angry at him whenever it goes wrong as he gets even further flanderized into a self-centered man-child. Another example is how he acted way too immaturely in "Mr. Poorman" over things being poor like ramen noodles that he childishly called worms for most of the time. He's even a bad boss to Mario when he harasses him as an intern in "Mario The Intern".
    20. He mentions that he cheated on his wife and refused to give ''her'' a second chance to be prettier for him.
    21. In "Jeffy Plays Baseball", he fakes being paralyzed to make Mario his servant. When Mario justifiably gets fed up with him and rips him a new one for how awful of a person he is, he drops the act and ''he'' tells him off.
    22. He was at his worst in "Jeffy's Drivers License!", because he revokes Mario's driver's license, buys a rocket ship for $3 billion to strap the license on, bribes the police so he can get away with it, and forces Mario to watch said rocket launch and fire into the sun just because Mario bumped into his car with no damage done. Adding insult to injury, Goodman himself decided to park his car in Mario's driveway, so he did all that to Mario over something that was his fault too. It wouldn't be surprising if Goodman parked his car in Mario's driveway intentionally just so he could assert his dominance.
    23. In "The Life of Goodman", he kidnaps Mario just for not paying the "house payment" and forces him to stay in Chive's room for a few days.
    24. He's shown to be hypocritical at the end of "Mr. Goodman's Clone!", where he gets angry at Mario for trying to kill him in exchange for a hundred grand, but then immediately afterward says he would have done the same thing to Mario.
    25. In ''Goodman's Wife'', he was a complete idiot for assuming that Mario was flirting with his wife when in reality his wife was flirting with him.
    26. In "Breaking Bad" he sells Mario's "mortgage" to a Mexican also the Mexican that Goodman brought over behaves the same way he does such as cutting Mario's balls off if he doesn't have $10000.
    27. He endangered 75 African elephants just to make his business suit which is poaching. "The Life of Goodman", reveals that he has a private jet with everything inside being made out of elephant asshole, suggesting he poached hundreds or even thousands of elephants.
    28. In "Junior's Cheeto Dinosaur", for some reason he has a stupid obsession with Cheeto-shaped objects which doesn't make sense as to why he thinks it is important.
    29. In "Jeffy's Christmas Gift!", when he sees Mario bid $600 for a Turboman doll, he outbids Mario with five hundred thousand dollars and shows up to Mario's house with the doll to tell Mario he's going to upload a YouTube video of him smashing the doll. All this is to spite Mario for spending $600 on a doll when he can't even make his house payments to Goodman. When Mario tells him that his wife Rosalina will leave him if he can't get a Turboman doll, Goodman tells him that's good, showing no empathy. This was done on Christmas Eve.
    30. In "Mario the Intern", we see how Goodman runs a business. He will get mad if someone is even a single minute late signing in, he scolds and spanks employees for decorating for a holiday too early (ex; putting up a Halloween decoration in late September instead of October), he fires employees if they try to take a day off for their 9-month pregnant wife who could give birth at any moment, he demands virtually impossible tasks from workers so he can have an excuse to fire them if they fail (ex; demanding Chick-Fil-A for his Sunday lunch despite Chick-Fil-A not being opened on Sundays, only to throw the lunch in the garbage when the worker actually does get it, thereby wasting the money of the worker who got it for him), he asks Mario/Marvin (currently an unpaid intern working to pay off his house debt) if he wants anything for lunch only to cruelly tell him that as an intern he is only allowed to eat nuts, he forces workers to run laps around the office if they are unable to hang up phones fast enough, he does not allow interns breaks, he does not allow days off no matter how sick an employee is, forcing them to come to work even if they have cancer or COVID, and he forces his interns to defecate and eat their own feces while saying "I'd rather eat my own shit than take this deal" if a deal offering him less than 30% of a company is made.
    31. We learn that he has refused to pay child support for one of his ex-wives for an entire year, and when she calls demanding the payment, he tells her he hates her and their kid.
    32. In "Mr. Goodman's Egg!", he lies to Mario that he has discovered a Dodo bird egg worth ten billion dollars, offering to pay Mario if he can keep it safe. In the end, he destroys it and reveals he told Mario that just to make him go through Hell trying to keep it safe, knowing Mario's bad reputation for looking after things, for a laugh.
    33. In "The Contract", he and Greg repeatedly offer Mario/Marvin fake contracts promising to offer him $50,000,000 in exchange for his house if Mario/Marvin can keep the contract safe for 10 minutes. This is just a trick, as they were making a bet on whether the contract would last that long, knowing of Mario/Marvin's inability to keep things safe. If the contract did last, Goodman would pay Greg (not Mario/Marvin) $50,000,000, and if the contract didn't last, Greg owed Goodman $50,000,000. Goodman and Greg had no intention of giving Mario/Marvin $50,000,000 regardless of whether the contract survived, offering him false hope of getting $50,000,000 as part of their bet for a laugh. They repeat the bet twice, first increasing the stakes of the bet to $100,000,000 and offering a second contract if Mario/Marvin could keep it safe for 5 minutes, and when that got destroyed, a third for $150,000,000 if he could keep it safe for one minute. Mario/Marvin succeeds with the third contract but finds out it was all a lie (though Greg does give him $10,000 out of gratitude after he succeeds with the third contract, allowing Greg to make $150,000,000). It's also revealed that Goodman cheated during the third bet, sending Johnathon Guy to the house to try and destroy the contract with a paper shredder. In the same episode, it's revealed that when Goodman had earlier left his talking dog at Mario/Marvin's house in a previous video, claiming it was worth $2,000,000 and that he was planning to enter him into the international dog competition in an attempt to win the $5,000,000 prize, and that he would pay Mario/Marvin $50,000 to watch the dog if the dog entered and won, he lied. Goodman just wanted to get rid of the dog, and instead of taking it to the pound, he thought it would be funny to lie to Mario/Marvin and leave the dog with him, knowing about his inability to look after things, so he could mess with him for a laugh. He was never going to pay him even if he did properly look after the dog. Although Goodman never even wanted to enter the competition anyway, he still kept up the charade when he returned to find the dog gone, making Mario/Marvin think Goodman was going to punish him for costing him a $2,000,000 dog and forcing Mario/Marvin to enter the dog competition pretending to be a dog, just for Goodman's amusement.
    34. In "Brooklyn Guy's Credit Card", he refuses to pay his employees their average wage, causing them to go on strike and indirectly resulting in credit card fraud going on the rise.
    35. Since he hardly ever gets any comeuppance or karma, he can fairly be considered a karma houdini, which does not help his stigma from detractors.
    36. It's implied that he's not even Mario's landlord because Mario got his new house for free due to his insurance after the old house burned down that Goodman doesn't even own. There's no evidence that Mr. Goodman owns that company and Mario likely had the insurance for many years before Mr. Goodman became rich and was flanderized. In "The House Fire", Brooklyn Guy (The Real One) was working with the company Mario pays for insurance. Then in "The New House", Does Bad Things Guy was filling in for his brother and he got Mario the new house for free since his insurance covered enough for a new home. In "Jeffy's Piggy Bank", he even has a key to Mario's house. Mario had the new house from 2016-present so Mr. Goodman was doing this for more than six years to more and was never punished for it.
    37. In "The Dance Marathon", he enters the dance competition to retain ownership of Mario/Marvin's house specifically because he says he doesn't want Mario/Marvin to be happy. He forces Chives to dance until he has a heart attack to help him win, and he ''gets mad at Chives when he has a heart attack because it forces him to stop dancing''. When it's down to just him and Mario/Marvin, Goodman knocks Mario/Marvin down with a baseball bat, ensuring his win and allowing him to continue to force Mario/Marvin to work as an unpaid intern to pay off his house (in fairness, it's mentioned that there were no rules and a contestant literally could have murdered someone without being disqualified, and Mario/Marvin had deliberately sabotaged several of the other contestants himself, so it would be pretty hypocritical to accuse Goodman of cheating, though this still does not excuse his entering the contest specifically to keep Mario/Marvin under his thumb and unhappy or his cruel treatment of Chives).
    38. Because of the reasons mentioned above, he can be considered the Mr. Herriman from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Double G from Game Shakers, Verbalase, James Rhodes from Iron Man: Armored Adventures, Jamie Blarb from Jamie's Got Tentacles, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin of Super Mario Logan.

    Goodman Qualities

    1. Before his character was rebooted, he was a less polarizing and more universally acclaimed character among fans.
    2. While he does have his critics, he as mentioned above, is still also well-received having an equally large number of fans who like his new personality and appreciate his satirical take on the corrupt multi-billionaire and eccentric mannerisms.
    3. He has a unique and witty way with words and is a fairly good comedian; his modern persona has provided many of SML's most memorable quotes/one-liners and if not overdone, his angry rants can provide a great source of deadpan comedy.
      • While his swearing did get overdone for a time, his swearing also fit his character perfectly, more so than Jeffy, which made his swearing rants seem a lot more natural (one example being "The Bet" as seen here).
      • Similarly, his "house payment" jokes have often been witty (ex: "Jeffy's Halloween" and "Scooter the Rapper").
      • During SML's "Family-Friendly" period from 2019-2021, Goodman's jokes became more clever and relied on using humor that wasn't just his swearing fits.
    4. Lance still does a great job at voicing himself; his signature angry voice is still appropriately intense and fitting for his character, and his soft speaking voice when calm remains pleasant and distinctive.
    5. He is still an entertaining news reporter like he was under his old characterization.
    6. He can sometimes seem wise and agreeable compared to some of the other characters, and despite his greed, he is often shown to be one of the smarter/more sensible characters in the series. He also makes some good points sometimes (ex: "Jeffy's Broken Toy", where he points out you shouldn't believe everything you hear on TV, albeit in a twisted way).
    7. He is genuinely likable in episodes and still has his original personality in episodes such as "Chef Pee Pee Goes To Hollywood" where after Chef Pee Pee shows Goodman the blue waffle he made, Goodman says that it reminded him of his childhood and he lets Junior and Chef Pee Pee off the hook, which was nice for him. Likewise, he has a right to be mad at Junior and Chef Pee Pee for stealing his money.
    8. Despite being a Karma Houdini there were few moments he got karma and comeuppance
      • In "The Devil's Son" He got shot by Craig Junior
      • In "Jeffy Ball Z Episode 4" He got killed by Brooklyn Guy's Kamehameha
    9. Like Brooklyn Guy, Mr. Goodman is often the only good part of bad SML videos and can save them or at least make them more tolerable to watch. Notable examples include "Jeffy's Big Mess", "Don't Tell Goodman", "Jeffy's Recycles", "Jeffy's Broken Laptop", & "Jeffy's Halloween".
    10. In "Mr. Goodman's Father", it is revealed that Frank Goodman (Mr. Goodman's dad) hates him all because he bought him a gift card, and Frank acts like he doesn't care about his son. This could explain why Mr. Goodman acts the way he is.
      • Also, in "Black Yoshi's Black Friday" it's revealed how he hates Thanksgiving because his family only likes him for his money, which gets them to sympathize with him.
    11. Although his Kable10 counterpart is dead and Richard's Kable10 counterpart is the same as him, Kermit later has that villainous and greedy role of Goodman but is much more tolerable than him.
    12. Because of his drastic personality change, it is clear that Mr. Goodman is made to be hated.

    Trivia

    • According to the SML Wiki, the possible reasons why Goodman was flanderized were because Donald Trump was elected president of the United States in 2016, and that Logan may have found the fact he's named Goodman funny because he does bad things.
