    Prom (hallucination)

Montgomery "Monty" de la Cruz was the secondary antagonist of 13 Reasons Why he was a jock started out as just a regular but insensitive and easily-annoyed bully, until in season 2 where his sociopathic nature becomes more abhorrent and even worse deadly.

He was portrayed by Timothy Granaderos.

Why He Should Naver Be Forgiven

    1. In season 1, he was just a generic annoying jock with no redeeming qualities of any kind with no intelligence or charisma to make him a well-written villain.
    2. During season 2 he commits extremely stupid crimes to try and silence the witnesses in the Bakers vs Liberty Trail, such as outright trying to murder Clay in Bryce's Range Rover and giving Alex a gun in hopes of him committing suicide not even considering the consequences of his actions, when he was confronted about this he cowardly lies to escape the group and then lies to the police in a pathetic way about having "never touched a gun in his life" only escaping prosecution thanks to the help of Bryce's lawyer.
    3. Despite having an abusive father, he completely fails to make him sympathetic before this, as there was the infamous bathroom scene in which Monty brutally beats Tyler down and then uses a mop pole to sodomize him because of a baseball game being canceled which is just petty.
    4. In season 3 the show tries to make him sympathetic by showing him struggling with his sexuality and having a relationship with Winston Williams which also completely fails had Monty assaults William brutally just because people would think he's gay purely because of the two talking to each other which makes the relationship toxic even then considering that he is a rapist the relationship wouldn't be good to begin with.
    5. The scene where his father spits on it is meant to make him sympathetic but viewers see it has karma.
    6. In season 4, the show adds random characters that didn't exist before, like Diego Torres (who is friends with Monty) and Estela de la Cruz (who is his younger sister) to humanize him now that he's dead, which once again fails because their relationships aren't shown fully since they didn't show up beforehand.
      1. The other characters that morn his death have no reason to do so, these characters are Clay (who Monty not only beat up in the locker room but he also try to kill), Ani (who Monty threatened to beat up with a nightstick), Alex (who Monty not only beat up, mocked his suicide attempt and gave him the gun the he hoped he would used to kill himself), Winston (who was assaulted by Monty) and Tyler (who Monty not only beat up, raped and mocked him about but naver shown any remorse) it kinda made sense for Bryce who generally tries to make amends with those he hurt and change for the better, but the characters morning for Monty just feels like the show trying to make sympathetic but failed

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. He is a good friend to Bryce as he is generally sad that Bryce died and attacks the girls protesting his funeral.
    2. Timothy Granaderos acting did give him some comedic lines.
    3. He did at least got his comeuppance when he sent to prison and got killed in prison by a biker dude.

    • He was originally supposed to be according to the original director to be a Hate Sink that is even worse then Bryce but due to the original directors death and Monty's actor wanting to make him sympathetic just so fan's wouldn't attack him for playing Monty this ended up changing.
