Marge Simpson is the deutragonist of the long-running American sitcom The Simpsons. She is the wife of Homer Simpson and the mother of Bart, Lisa and Maggie.

Unfortunately, she was flanderized during seasons 16-30.

"Hrrmmmph..." Qualities

Note: This only applies to her character as depicted in seasons 16-30 of The Simpsons, as she was flanderized.

1. She has been flanderized from a no-nonsense, yet loving mother to a total killjoy who goes out of her way to ruin anything she doesn't find fun, yet the rest of her family (and the entirety of Springfield for that matter) does.
2. She nags and worries too much about everything and she easily gets excited by doing household chores and monotonous hobbies.
3. By season 24, her voice has sounded tired and worn out and it's clear that Julie Kavner's vocal cords have gradually deteriorated over the years due to her age.
   • For whatever reason, despite Julie Kavner's ruined voice, the producers insisted on keeping her as Marge's voice actor instead of giving the role to another voice actor, like Nancy Cartwright (Bart's voice actress).
   • Her growling voice, while still iconic, can get on your nerves.
4. While being nowhere near as bad as modern Lois Griffin, she constantly treats her husband Homer like dirt, to the point where it has nearly wrecked their marriage multiple times, albeit to a lesser extent.
   • For whatever reason, whenever Homer does something bad to Marge, she doesn't think of dumping him immediately for the most part.
   • Despite having a close bond with Bart, she sometimes treats him poorly, too. For example, she kicked out both Bart and Homer out of the house for disagreeing with her opinion about women in "Love is a Many Splintered Thing".
5. She's a massive hypocrite:
   • When Homer meets another woman who's romantically interested in him, Marge automatically assumes that he's cheating on her, and yet she has no problem cheating on Homer with another man.
6. Similar to her daughter Lisa, in many episodes that involve her being in a conflict with something, Marge's mostly portrayed like she's in the right of the conflict, always comes out on top, and the writers are always at a desperate attempt to make you root for Marge. For example, when Homer meets another woman (sometimes unwittingly) and Marge lashes him out, we're expected to sympathize with Marge when in reality, she's being jealous and petty towards Homer.
7. She is extremely intolerant towards other religions such as Buddhism and Roman Catholic.
8. She is prone to jealously and possessiveness, particularly towards Homer as she can't stand him being near any other woman, even if it's just casual. Which is a common trait with domestic abusers.
9. In "All's Fair in Oven War" she cheats in a cooking competition.
10. In "We're on The Road To D'ohwhere" she took her yard sale too far by not only selling drugs (Homer’s expired prescription pills to be exact) but she also sells Bart and Homer’s belongings without their consent or knowledge.
11. In "The Haw-Hawed Couple" she forced Bart to go to Nelson's birthday when Bart didn't want to.
12. In "The Food Wife" instead of become a fun mother she sends Homer to a meth lab.
13. In "Steal This Episode" she tattled to the FBI on Homer that he was doing movie piracy.
14. In "Orange is the New Yellow" she decides to stay in jail after abandoning Bart.
15. She almost never learns from her mistakes, and will even blame others.
16. She can be quite ungrateful. Often dismissing or insulting peoples efforts to help her, especially Homer when he tries to make her feel better.

Good Qualities

1. She was a much better character in the first fifteen seasons and has redeemed herself since season 31.
2. Despite her characterization going downhill, she still cares about her family, and does try to make up with Homer.
3. There are plenty of episodes where Marge is likable, such as "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind", "Holidays of Future Passed", "Marge Gamer" and "The Boys of Bummer".
4. Despite some flaws, Julie Kavner still occasionally does a good job voicing her, especially before season 24.
5. In general, Marge is not as bad as other modern Simpsons characters who were flanderized.
6. She does get arrested in "We're on The Road To D'ohwhere" by selling those drugs.
