    Kirby (1995 and 2006)
A version of a character that was destined to become an immortal legend... in the ABSOLUTE WORST way imaginable!
    Gender: Male
Type: The Abusive, Idiotic Side of Kirby
    Species: Kirby (species)
    Portrayed by: Makiko Ohmoto
    Status: Alive
Media of origin: Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap/Squeak Squad

Kirby is the main protagonist of the video games with the same game. He is a pink, round creature who resides in Dream Land. In his debut game, his mission was to recover stolen food from King Dedede, appearing in every game since.

Sadly, he was badly flanderized in Kirby's Avalanche and Squeak Squad, reaching jerkass levels from the beginning to the end of the game in the former, while being an idiot in the latter.

NOTE: This article is only talking about his flanderization in the games Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap and Kirby: Squeak Squad since the original Kirby is likable.

    Bad Qualities

    Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap

    1. To get the elephant out of the room, he has been badly flanderized, going from a likable, adventurous puffball to a complete jerkass who acts arrogant and abusive towards everyone and is happy to hurt them for seemingly no reason.
    2. The reason why he's so unlikable is that he's very rude, annoying, and immature.
    3. He hardly gets any comeuppance or karma for acting like a jerk to others and gets off scot-free, making him a karma houdini. He doesn't even apologize to the rest of the cast at the end of the game.
    4. He is one of the reasons, if not the sole reason why Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap gained a biased hatebase.
    5. His behavior has been widely hated by fans and critics alike, possibly even worse than in Kirby Squeak Squad, thus making him a Scrappy.
    6. He is a member of the mean popular boy trope.
    7. Since the game that he appeared in (Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap) was released by Nintendo (although the storyline is not considered canon), he gives the original Kirby a very bad name.

    In The Cutscenes

    1. When he asks Waddle Dee to play Avalanche with him, Waddle Dee says no and instead asks him if they can just walk together. However, Kirby outright refuses to accept that and says "Sorry, rules are rules!". This proves that he can't take criticism and handle others saying no to him.
    2. He calls Bronto Burt a bully just because he wants to fight Kirby, which shows he likes to call people bad names. Not to mention, that is hypocritical, as Kirby is the bully in this game.
    3. Another scene where he does that is even worse than the former, when Paint Roller says he will draw a picture of him winning against Kirby, he refers to him as "the meanest art student he's ever met" which also proves that Kirby cannot handle criticism.
    4. He is also inconsiderate, when Whispy Woods tells him not to step on his roots, he does it anyway, and also he threatens Whispy that he will steal his apples from him and make them into an apple pie.
    5. He's somewhat dumb, as in one scene he refers to Kabu as a "boulder" which is nonsensical since he is a statue.
    6. He is also a mocker, when Broom Hatter is cleaning the forest he mocks her by saying he will clean up her Avalanche skills instead, causing Broom Hatter to get upset.
    7. Not only that, but he also has bad manners, when Squishy is talking to him he interrupts him by telling him to leave, which shows how rude he is and proves he is impatient at the same time.
    8. For some reason, the game inserts Kirby into the wrong feelings in one scene, as when Bugzzy roars at him he says he is scared but he has an angry look on his face, which can also make him sarcastic.
    9. He can be manipulative: when he's fighting Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright, he says he'll have both fighting eventually (like Marx did in Kirby Super Star).
    10. He overreacts when Meta Knight says he will fight him.
    11. Most of his lines, if not all his lines are stolen from Arle Nadja except that they are translated.
    12. While he did speak in the game, it was non-canon, as it was a reskin of Puyo Puyo, sadly.

    In The Boss Fights

    1. He causes bad things to happen to the bosses when he defeats them, causing them to get hurt (EX: Waddle Doo, Whispy Woods & Heavy Mole).
    2. He is far too hyperactive, as he jumps around and flies like a maniac for no reason at all, although it was a reskin of Puyo Puyo, he also replaces Carbuncle so it is justified in a way.
    3. To add insult to injury, his sprites are resprited from Kirby's Adventure, unlike the ones in the cutscenes.

    Squeak Squad

    1. Kirby is way too mindless, ruthless, and ignorant to be a likable protagonist in this game, going as far as to cause Dark Nebula to be freed from his chest prison.
    2. He is much more of a bland and basic version of himself as a hero, where he comes out with no personality and character development. He still has his traditional inhale powers and copy abilities and nothing else to say about him aside from being ruthless when it comes to food.
    3. His new abilities are either mediocre or flat-out blasphemy to use, whether you may like those abilities or not, probably the most infamous one is the Metal ability; it turns him into metal as he moves and flies way too slow. It's just a Melee Kirby's version of the fan-favorite Stone Ability.
    4. Like most of his other games, he can easily lose his ability any time he's hit, and the player character has to chase the Ability Star to get the ability back, which is hard as it constantly bounces around and might fall into a bottomless pit if there is one.
    5. He does not get any comeuppance for his unheroic actions, making him a Karma Houdini.
    6. He was the real reason why the story was in a nutshell, all because of him going on a rampage because his slice of cake was stolen. The first thing he does is jump to a very dumb conclusion that it was King Dedede who did it, like how he always does, In which he mindlessly beats up King Dedede in his castle. Because of this, King Dedede's treasure chests were also stolen from the Squeak Squad.
      • Even after it was revealed that King Dedede had nothing to do with the whole predicament, he was just standing there like a statue when everything happened until he was picked up by King Dedede and thrown at the Squeak Squad, so he just wanted to get his cake back and nothing else as his main motive.
    7. Even though Meta Knight was aware that the main antagonist, Dark Nebula, was in his chest prison, Kirby framed Meta Knight for stealing his cake to the point where he mindlessly beat him up in his own Halberd.
    8. At the end of the game, despite his goal of getting his cake back and was also bribed into getting Dedede's treasure back, he stupidly unleashes darkness upon his world twice, so the day was saved purely out of dumb luck aside from the Squeak Squad giving up on invading Kirby's world as Kirby was still thinking about the cake the whole time.
    9. When Dark Nebula was released, instead of rushing to save the world again, he was more concerned over his cake.
    10. While not confirmed and pretty much non-canon, he may be a murderer. In an image in the Boss Rush subgame, Kirby can be seen, alongside the bosses, who have their eyes X'd, which looks like he actually killed them all.
    11. He has been flanderized to have a petty, dramatic side as well.
    12. Like his Avalanche counterpart, he's also one of the sole reasons why Kirby: Squeak Squad gained a biased hatebase. This is such a shame since Kirby: Squeak Squad is one of the most underrated Kirby games and an underrated gem in general.

    Good Qualities

    Kirby's Avalanche/Kirby's Ghost Trap

    1. He thankfully did not ruin the game despite his actions.
    2. To be fair: Kirby himself was far more likable in the previous games, and he has redeemed in the later games such as Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Dream Land 3, etc.
    3. At least his appearance (in both cutscenes & bosses) stays faithful to the original Kirby, and not to mention cute as well.
    4. It's one of the few times Kirby can speak in full sentences (the other times being the manuals for some of the games, the manga, the Mario/Kirby Masterpiece Video, and a Japan-only drama CD), as in most of the other games (especially the modern ones), he only makes baby talk sounds, with a few exceptions, such as in the Super Smash Bros games, where he can say the names of some of the abilities that he copied from other fighters after he inhales them.

    In The Cutscenes

    1. He can be funny at times. Especially since he comes up with funny jokes such as in the cutscene where he meets Lololo & Lalala.
      • "I'll breathe in your pathetic bombs and spit them back at you!"
    2. He does (if rarely) get his comeuppance for his actions, such as in Bronto Burt's cutscene where he gets told to shut up.
      • On top of that, he also gets another minor comeuppance in Waddle Doo's cutscene, where he was appalled at how Kirby didn't treat Waddle Dee with respect and scolded him for his mistreatment.
    3. He does still act nice to some characters, like King Dedede.
    4. Makiko Ohmoto does a great job voicing him.

    In The Boss Fights

    1. The victory dance he does when he wins is cute to look at.
    2. His sprites in the boss fights are decent and cute-looking despite them being resprited from Kirby's Adventure.

    Squeak Squad

    1. Even when he shows a ruthless side at the beginning of the story, he still takes down the Squeak Squad, thus redeeming himself by fixing the problem that happened.
    2. After Squeak Squad, he redeemed himself in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and became as nice and lovable as ever again, with his ignorance being toned down.
    3. His design still looks cute, as always.
    4. Makiko Ohmoto still does a cute job voicing him, as always.
    5. He undoubtedly has a bit of charm with the outfits he wears like the Animal ability, making him look very adorable.
      • With that said, most of his abilities are useful (like the Bubble ability for example) and sometimes fun to use.
    6. Like in Kirby's Avalanche, his mistreatment of others didn't make the game any less fun, and the game is still great.
    7. YouTubers TAKirbystar and Nintendude428 are working on making him into a more likable character.
