    Jake Spidermonkey
"You should know by now I can't be held responsible for anything I say."
    Gender: Male
    Type: Butt-Obsessed Spider Monkey
    Age: 12
    Species: Spider Monkey
    Portrayed by: Tom Kenny
    Status: Alive
Media of origin: My Gym Partner's a Monkey
    First appearance: Inoculation Day
Last appearance: A Whole Zoo World

Jacob P. "Jake" Spidermonkey is the deuteragonist of My Gym Partner's a Monkey, next to his best friend and straight man, Adam Lyon. He is a stupid, disgusting, destructive, and oftentimes "hilarious" spider monkey, who goes to Charles Darwin Middle School.

He was voiced by Tom Kenny.

Why He's a Pain in the Butt

    1. He is basically a rip-off of Blooregard Q. Kazoo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends especially when you consider that he, the friend of the show's main human protagonist. In fact, if you take away everything likable about both Bloo (even more so than his "flanderized" version), you get Jake Spidermonkey in a nutshell. Tom Kenny also starred in both shows.
      • He also feels like a rip-off of the infamous computer program BonziBUDDY, since both monkeys are annoying.
    2. Even though he's supposed to Adam Lyon's best friend, he doesn't even treat him like a good friend. In fact, he more often than not frequently tortures him instead of doing anything a good friend would. In other words, you could say he treats Adam like a Butt-Monkey (pun intended).
    3. He has a poor sense of humor, constantly cracking a lot of unfunny and cringe-worthy jokes, especially butt-jokes, making him a poorly written comic-relief. The worst offender was in the infamous episode "The Butt of the Jake", so much to the point that aforementioned episode got banned from Cartoon Network after its content was deemed "too vulgar" for children's television.
      • He used his butt as bongos in the show's intro.
    4. His voice, while good, is just about as grating as SpongeBob SquarePants during seasons 6 and 7 (both voiced by Tom Kenny).
      • Also, it can sound like SpongeBob at times depending on your opinion.
    5. His relationship with many characters (aside from Adam and Lupe Toucan) just kinda go bad.
      • Jake might be friends with Windsor Gorilla, but he is often dumbfounded by his intelligent dialogue.
      • Although he is friends with Slips Python, he acts as a bad influence on Slips, as it was revealed that Slips' stupid behavior and air-headed character is actually fueled by Jake's peer pressure.
      • Ingrid Giraffe is frequently annoyed with Jake's annoying behavior and constant jokes about his butt.
    6. He is constantly emotional and goofy and takes to heart some of Adam's comments and actions, leading to some overly dramatic and exaggerated reactions which can get on your last nerves fast, similar to Sid in The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild.
    7. He often tends to be a hypocrite, especially in "Shark Attack".
    8. Unlike Camp Lazlo (while one sound was used once), the show overuses stock monkey sound effects for him, which is really annoying and repetitive.
    9. While his design is decent, a lot of his facial expressions can get uncanny and over-the-top.
    10. In the episode "Basic Jake" he gets Adam stuck with in detention on Saturday which obviously is the most meanest thing he has done in the entire series.
    11. In the season 3 finale episode "Shark Fin Soupy" he keeps calling Adam a ghost by thinking his buddy had died, and at the same he got Adam beat-up by Bull Sharkowski even when he did nothing wrong.
    12. Even though he's been doing stupid stuff and mean-spirited things to get off the hook his friends Adam, Windsor, Slips, Ingrid and Lupe still hang out with him.
    13. In "Shark Attack" he takes advantage of the situation after Adam was accused of being the school bully due to Bull Sharkowski constantly taking his lunch for days, and he even laughed so evilly about it knowing that he and Adam were going to rule the school.
    14. Unfortunately, he's a bad version of Lazlo from Camp Lazlo, another Cartoon Network show. Unlike Lazlo, Jake Spidermonkey is no better making that character tame in comparison, which is pretty ironic.
    15. His design, while good, is rather mediocre since he doesn't have long arms just like a real spider monkey does.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. His design is overall good, and it looks accurate to what a spider monkey would normally look like.
    2. There are a few good times where he is nice to Adam Lyon, showing that he doesn't torture him all the time.
    3. To be fair, he does accept that not everyone likes him, unlike Trevor Troublemeyer.
    4. Despite the flaws, Tom Kenny did a good job voicing him.
    5. He can be funny at times.
    6. In the episode "Nice Stache", Jake did get his comeuppance in the end after Adam got that hairy caterpillar on his face to look like a mustache. Fans regard Adam leaving Jake behind as the most satisfying moment of the series.
