Dr. Henry "Hank" Jonathan Pym, also known as Giant-Man, Ant-Man, and Yellowjacket, is a fictional character appearing in publications made by Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, he first appeared in Tales to Astonish #44 (January 1962).

While he is one of Marvel's most recognizable and iconic characters, unfortunately, he was badly flanderized in the Ultimate Comics run.

This article will only focus on his Ultimate Comics counterpart. If you have any better pointers, please write them down below.

    Why He's "Irredeemable"

    1. As you already know, Giant Man/ Hank Pym was flanderized from a scientist struggling with mental issues and mistakes (i.e. creating Ultron (which he later is merged by him permanently as of Avengers: Rage Of Ultron) and hitting his wife Janet van Dyne/Wasp), and a caring husband into a cruel, abusive alcoholic who assaults Janet, his wife (who is a mutant in the Ultimate Comics), frequently, sometimes to near-death.
    2. He is also a hypocritical fraud, as he stole his wife's ideas, but blames her for making him "look small", as to say that she took all the credit for the ideas, even though they were actually her ideas to begin with.
    3. As mentioned in WHRITIAM #1, he maybe an abuser, but he badly assaulted Janet since they were in college, as he brutally punched Janet to the point where the roof of her mouth was split in two, smashed her head through a door, and in the infamous moment where he uses ants to attack Janet while she was shrunken down.
    4. He is hell-bent on killing Captain America in The Ultimates #7 after he accuses the latter to coming on to Janet. Thankfully, he fails and gets the beating out of him by Cap.
    5. In Ultimatum, after witnessing Wasp getting eaten by the Blob, he bites the latter's head off in retaliation, and later forces Iron Man to sacrifice his entire body when a bunch of Multiple Men are towering his body instead of just telling Iron Man to get rid of the Multiple Men. We are not joking.
    6. He only got his powers to change size by experimenting on Janet and extracting her blood, and creating a serum to give himself the ability to shrink and grow, instead of the mainstream version of him creating a serum made from subatomic particles (The Pym Particles as he calls them) that he discovered himself.

    Redeemable Qualities

    1. He has expressed remorse for Janet, such as when he questions what he did to Janet in The Ultimates #6, and avenging her death by killing Blob in Ultimatum, even though it was pretty out-of-character for him to bite the latter's head off.
    2. In the last remaining issues of 2016’s The Ultimates ll and the final issue of Spider-Men ll which is a direct follow up to 2015’s Secret Wars and one of it's tie ins, Ultimate End, he was thankfully bought back to life and is last seen now helping the Ultimates stop his universe’s Green Goblin.
    3. His suits such as Ant-Man, Giant-Man, and Yellow Jacket are pretty good to make it more modern.
    4. The Ultimate Avengers animated direct-to-DVD duology, which was based on The Ultimates 12-issue series, toned the character down and removed certain parts from it despite his death in the sequel being sad or being pointless.
