General Hux (born 0 ABY on Arkanis; died 35 ABY on the Steadfast in the Kijimi system) is a First Order general who gets into power struggles with Kylo Ren.

Why He's More Loathsome Than The Resistance

    1. He's a rip-off of Grand Moff Tarkin. Especially since he is clearly meant to be the new Grand Moff Tarkin.
    2. He's very incompetent and inefficient as a Tarkin.
    3. He's a thinker and a commander, not a fighter. In The Force Awakens he doesn't even carry a gun. He does carry a blaster in The Last Jedi, but only briefly considers using it on a unconscious Kylo Ren and quickly changes his mind when Ren awakens.
    4. His Nazi speech is extremely cringeworthy to watch.
    5. The way he is portrayed is very inconsistent, where he seemingly is the main General in the first two movies of the sequel trilogy, but then was apparently succeeded by Pryde with no clear explanation.
    6. He is a punching-bag. In The Last Jedi, he was pushed around by Snoke and Kylo Ren as well as being played by Poe Dameron. In the next movie he was treated like trash again; Kylo Ren shuts him up for talking during one scene, he was shot by Poe in the leg, and then was executed by Pryde for being a traitor. He should not be a high-ranking military officer if no one respects him.
    7. He was underutilized in The Rise of Skywalker, as he turned on the First Order by being a spy for the Resistance, suggesting that he has a change of heart and is looking to redeem himself for his past crimes. He then goes on to coldly state that he doesn't actually care about the Resistance and is only betraying the First Order because he hates Kylo Ren. The problem is that nothing in this film sets up the idea he would betray the First Order other than his grudge against Kylo.
      • Despite the fact the previous movies and books all made it clear he was a loyal follower of the First Order, this film has him willing to sabotage the entire organization he has been helping lead, all because he doesn't like Kylo being in command of the Order, and treated him like a joke.
      • This is not only out-of-character for Hux, but also counterintuitive for a scheming villain like him because, if the Order gets defeated, Hux himself will be judged and probably executed as a war criminal, and no spy work will probably spare him from such a fate by this point, considering he murdered billions by ordering the destruction of Hosnian Prime as his establishing character moment all the way back in his introductory film.
        • The way he is killed off by General Pryde was abrupt and embarrassing.

    Redeeming Qualities

    1. The fact that according to the expanded universe comics and novels, he had an abusive dad combined with the fact that he was bullied for being a bastard child might make you feel a little sorry for him.
    2. Domhnall Gleeson does a fine job playing him. (Aside from the afmorementioned Nazi speech.)
    3. In the character's defense, he does come off as a threatening villain in The Force Awakens.
    4. Despite his speech is cringeworthy, he delivers before the destruction of the Hosnian system is memorable and quite frightning.
      • "Today is the end of the Republic! The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder! At this very moment, in a system far from here the New Republic lies to the galaxy while secretly supporting the treachery of the loathsome Resistance. This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand, will bring an end to the Senate! To their cherished fleet! All remaining systems will bow to the First Order! And will remember this… AS THE LAST DAY OF THE REPUBLIC!"
