Naoka Ueno (植野 直花, Ueno Naoka) is a character in the Koe no Katachi series. She was Shōya Ishida's classmate back in elementary school and sat next to him. She used to be the closest female to Ishida until she denied any part in helping Ishida bully Shōko Nishimiya.

Why She (Intentionally) Sucks

  1. She's the Mean Popular Girl trope who tells Ishida to bully Nishimiya.
  2. When Ishida was dating Nishimiya, Ueno became jealous and beat up Nishimiya.
  3. In the manga, she pushed Tomohiro Nagatsuka away from her, along with Miki Kawai.
  4. She slapped Miyoko Sahara (off-screen) when she tells her about Ishida being with Nishimiya.
  5. She hates Nishimiya because she is being with Ishida.
  6. In the manga, she tells Sahara that will not be friends anymore.
  7. In the movies, Nishimiya tries to cover an umbrella, and then she refuses.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. She is nice to Nishimiya to help her learn.
  2. At the end of the movie, Ueno apologized to Nishimiya for beating up in the hospital.
  3. Ueno is the only character to suffer the most. But still an evil jerk.
  4. Her design is pretty cute and attractive.
