Hi guys, this is my first blog post here. I was joined to Terrible Shows & Episodes Wiki (what I created three blog posts, without counting accidental dobule pages, and two official pages) until Qualitipedia shut down. How this is not part from Qualitipedia, I decided to make an review to an character from the Disney/Pixar 2022 movie, Ming Lee from Turning Red.
Who is Her?
She is the deuteragonist of the movie, with the role as Mei Lee's mother, who after discovered that Mei have the red panda curse, she have the help of the grandmother and the aunts for remove her panda form. In the movie clímax, when Mei escapes, she transforms on an very giant red panda to follow her in the 4Town concert.
Bad Qualities
1. For me, she plays the role of an overprotective mother but in a way that is too exaggerated, to the point that she protects her daughter at the expense of her dignity.
2. She protects her daughter, but the cost is causing damage on Mei's dignity and reputation, and happened two times:
. She accuses Devon for "having time with Mei" and show her drawings, what causes ti people poking fun on her, even in school. However, she never cares about that.
. She stalks Mei to the school, what makes Mei can't resist her nervous and shame, and what she does? Showing the menstruation solution. She does cares about her daugther reputation?
3. She is completely skeptical in many absurd ways, and is very noticeable in the movie:
. She saw her daugther's drawings about Devon, but she takes it as photos and she acussed Devon from undirectly pedophile and drug addict, and show the drawings to him.
. She stalks to school to Mei for solutions for the puberty.
4. When her daugther have problems with relation or not of someone, instead punish her daugther, she acusses the most near person to her despite none of them haven't do nothing. It mades Mei never gets punished by her actions. Noticeable in two scenes:
. She acusses Devon for stalking Mei, but he never did nothing, also, he doesn't meets Mei, but she acusses him from everything.
. Mei pokes fun on her rules about don't let her go to the 4Town concert with her friends, and she finds evidence downside her bed.. At that point, Mei can receive something, but no, she blames her friends to controlling her. How can be she too stupid?
5. When she turns in the Giant Red Panda, she attacks to the 4Town concert and attacks her daughter, and insulting her. Now she finally knows that girl never follows her rules?
Good Qualities
1. She is an overprotective mother, so many things can be understansable.
2. She is not bad, also, we saw her sensible nature, even when Mei finds her teenager version.
3. She redeemed herself to the climax of the movie.
4. As mentioned, Her design is very great.
5. Her voice is actually good.
6. She got an important role in the movie.
7. She cares a lot her daughter.
My Opinion
Hard decision. There is actions from her what I don't liked, but she is not an monster, she only protected her daughter in many ways despite some of them can ruins her dignity. She is relevant in the movie and important for the whole movie.
Rating: 7.1/10
She can't be the best mother as she claims, but she does an good work to care her daughter.
