"SmOoTh MoVe, ShOrTy!"
NOTE: Please have some respect for Candi Milo.
Dexter is the titular character and protagonist of Dexter's Laboratory. He is a boy genius who has a secret and solitary laboratory where he creates countless, weird and amazing machines and experiments. His high intelligence makes him the brains of his family.
Unfortunately, he fell into slight flanderization in the third and fourth seasons after Chris Savino took over Dexter's Laboratory.
Bad Qualities
- This page only covers Dexter in the third and fourth seasons since he was likable in the first and second seasons.
1. Though unchanged for the most part, he was slightly flanderized from a heroic "jerk with a heart of gold" type character to a bigger and more unlikable jerk. It's also worth noting that he is more of a Butt-Monkey in these seasons.
2. His new voice, provided by Candi Milo (who replaced Christine Cavanaugh), sounds incredibly forced, cheesy and annoying.
3. His design in these seasons, while cute and not too bad, is a notable downgrade from his design in the first two seasons due to looking more rigid and squarish. In fact, he looks a bit slimmed down and notably less expressive.
- On that topic, his design in the short "Chicken Scratch" is very ugly. This is likely due to the extremely smooth animation in said short and the fact that he looks more off-model than ever before. We're serious!
4. That one bumper where he makes a rude remark at Professor Utonium from The Powerpuff Girls when Utonium believes that he locked himself out of his car.
5. His inventions and experiments are significantly less creative and imaginative than they were in the first two seasons.
6. Overall, he is a far more obnoxious character in these seasons.
Good Qualities
1. He was much more likable in the first two seasons, as well as the Ego Trip movie.
2. Fortunately, Candi Milo slightly improved on voicing him in the fourth season.
3. His newer design, while rigid, is still admittedly very cute (except in "Chicken Scratch").
4. Despite being slightly flanderized, he remains very likeable most of the time, even in these seasons.
