Scar is the main antagonist of Disney's 2019 photo-realistic computer-animated feature film, The Lion King. He is voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Why He Sucks

NOTE: This page only accounts for the 2019 remake's incarnation of Scar, not the original 1994 film's version of him.

  1. He stripped of his sarcastic and sly attitude, and thus he is now miserable and gloomy, as well as blatantly bitter and dismissive towards everyone around him; as a result, he is now unlikable and boring from the start.
  2. He suffers the most from this, as the realistic approach completely removes the ability to squash-and-stretch his facial proportions to convey his sinister nature and ends up looking like just an ordinary lion with brown fur and a slight scar that isn't intimidating at all.
  3. His voice performance by Chiwetel Ejiofor is very poor and bland, to the point where he sounded boring and nothing, compared to Jeremy Iron's voice performance in original movie.
  4. His song "Be Prepared" is visually inferior to the original, as it is simply just he climbing to the top of a cliff as the hyenas watch at what is lacking a dark area with a lack of smoke, geysers or fire.
  5. The way that he killed Mufasa is not only worse than the original, but also one of the most laughable moments as it is looks like he just slap Mufasa on the face with his paw, leaving a gash over his eye, instead of brutally tossing him off the cliff and then Mufasa fall into the wildebeest stampede, with Simba just yells "No!"
  6. His personality is a rip-off of Metal Beak from Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, as both characters are evil and planning to fight the good guys.
  7. His dialogue begins with, "As you know...", is quite subpar, generic and cliché.
  8. For some reason, he sends Zazu to get the pride after convincing him that Zazu will help Simba and Mufasa, yet he later convinces the pride that Zazu didn't reach the gorge in time to help Simba and Mufasa. Given that Zazu still visited the pride at Pride Rock to relay information, it is unclear as to why Zazu didn't realize this and reveal to the pride that he was lying.
  9. His delivery of his famous line "Long live the king!" when he says it out loud instead of whispering it to Mufasa is rather angry, over-the-top and bland compared to in the original, where it is actually menancing and scary.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. His death manages to not only be very faithful to the original, but also manages to be much more terrifying than the original version, since he fights the hyenas back before being slaughtered and delivering a terrifying scream before dying.
