"We had a strong independent female" is an excuse made to dismiss criticism on Mary Sue characters.

It is well known that most female characters are shown as weak back in the 1960s and earlier before the gender equality movement became more common. It was not until the late 20th century that this problem is now fixed. However as SJWs came into the picture, they started to make a female character that is a Mary Sue or a propaganda type character. Just because you made a strong and powerful female character does not mean you had to make them bland, overpowered, and a tool.

Often when a strong female character ends up being criticized for either poor writing, being sexist to the male audience, being a Mary Sue or even there to promote an ideology and nothing else, some people might use the "We had a strong independent female" as an excuse for doing so. Saying that statement shouldn't be a good enough excuse for making low-quality and effortless strong female characters in general. This excuse also treats its audience like they are unintelligent beings or idiots with no real taste, which isn't true. In fact, critically acclaimed trilogies like Star Wars have had worse off sequels because they try hard to be "politically correct".

Even if a strong female character is mostly aimed at female audiences, male audiences may also be interested in this character as well. There are many examples of this, but the most well known one are Ochaco Uraraka, Amethyst, Lyn, Raven, and Spinel, just to name few. The aforementioned characters are for female audiences, yet they have enough substance and real effort put in to be relatable and entertaining for the male audience and don't pander towards feminists.

There is no excuse for making a strong female character poorly written just because you want to pander to SJWs.

I really wish that when it came to making strong female characters, people would take notes from the good examples.

I had added examples for this page so you can add what is a well written strong female character and a poorly written strong female character.

While I respect on why we can't list any characters here, I just like to vent my anger on recently bad female characters replacing real male characters on this comment section:

-Jasmine (2017 film)- Naomi Scott may have made an excellent performance but for me, Aladdin felt more like a cashgrab Disney Princess movie that panderizes Jasmine for a feminist Muslim community. I feel so sad that the film ruined Jafar, who happened to be one of my fave Disney Villains & Iago, whom I envisioned to be like Waddlesworth from 102 Dalmatians & Paulie in live action form.

-Dani Ramos- As a John Connor fan, I fucking hate this bitch. She's just like the spinosaurus from JP3 but much more worse.

-Ironheart- I knew less of her but I do respect the hate she is getting.

-Mia Sutton- Trash Note's bad SJW attempt to make a female Kira using a whitewashed Misa Amane but failed miserably.

No offense but to be exact, most of the badly made feminist reboots felt too similar to those misogynic ntr rape hentai I formerly watched & loathed a lot. The writers are just doing the exact same thing those rape hentais are writing except the girl's more powerful instead & less pornographic content. I'm a hentai fan so I know this kind of crappy plot & it's no different to those misogynic hentai at all.

I had made this page because I really hate this excuse. This excuse is made just to defend badly written characters like Ray.
